Here are a few places we have purchased things for George;
Owning a Wheaten requires loads of other things. Even if you aren’t showing your Wheatie you need him/her groomed very regularly - from the SCWT Club UK website they advise brushing every two days and you really need to or you get a matted, scruffy, smelly, unhappy dog. There is one thing about brushing regularly we have found, George doesn’t smell as much as he should.
We groom George every two to four weeks ourselves but you could find a dog groomer who knows Wheatens and can cut for around £35.00 upwards a time. Mind you when it comes to the really ‘BIG’ shows we do ask a friend/groomer/breeder to give him a once over as well - it’s all about getting practice.
Obviously these (below) are what we have bought ourselves and are happy with, but they might not be right for you or your dog and you should always refer to your breeder for recommendations. Or post a question on the SCWT Club UK website.
Dog Coat for walking in the countryside on a rainy day.
Ann Rees Equestrian on ebay.co.uk
Show pin for Dog Shows.
Alden Arts usually seen at Championship Dog Shows
Dog Show leather lead.
Padded Lamb Show Sets from Jubilee Leather online only
Dog walking lead for in the countryside and street.
We have tried nearly every lead possible. Most Wheaten’s pull on the lead (they are Terriers after all) bear that in mind - we have tried extendable leads, halti’s, harnesses, standard collar-lead and in the end we have resorted back to a noose lead - similar to what Caesar Milan uses on most of his dogs in the TV series The Dog Whisperer. If the lead is under his chin (but not on his larynx) and up the top by his ears he feels secure and doesn’t pull as much - All we can say here is try each one until you get a better walking dog, don’t throw any away though, as the noose we used was something we tried on George when he was a pup and it didn’t work so well then but works a treat now.
Scissors for grooming, it’s always a good idea to try them out in your hand before buying.
Roseline scissors found on ebay.co.uk or at Championship Dog Shows
Clippers for grooming, these are good and the box has a Wheaten on the front too!
Moser ARCO Cordless Clipper from FarmCareUK.com
Grooming table, fold-away with wheels, arm and handle, this is a life saver for stopping bad backs.
Dog Inn online you also need a noose for the arm, these are quite cheap and very handy to keep your dog on the table in one place.
